Refinishing therma-tru fibergl doors?

i have therma-tru fibergl doors, that have a wood grain pattern. i finished them with a therma-tru finishing system with a water based topcoat. it has peeled in some areas, mostly including the factory primer, down to white. my question is, can i clean off the loose stuff and refinish with mabey just a latex paint, and have it stick at least reasonably well? or any other suggestions?
